Bangladesh – conditions that just cry out for two spinners.  England have finally chosen to play Tredders.  A maiden over to start, to tame the Bangladesh batting juggernaut [and for the first hour, that was the fine force that is Tamim Iqbal;  85 off of 71 deliveries!] .  With two wickets for his first day James made an excellent start.

Yet another thrilling match,  with a fantastic home following at Eden Gardens spurring on their team.  India retain the top Ranked Test Team spot.

With 5 for 59 in the last innings and 8 wickets for the match the Terbanator,  Bhajji is back in business. Not to mention the truly daring do from  ‘Man of the Series’ Mr Amla, yet again.

A two match series with two result matches, these tests were scheduled at the last minute as an afterthought.

And the masses are now saying is that all there is – just two Tests – it was just warming up!

5 Tests is where it’s at!

Earlier this month Kyle McCallan announced his retirement.

A sad day – He was one of my favorite spinners.  I saw him play for the European XI against the MCC in 2007.  With Ireland in 2007 in Guyana in the super 8’s of  the ICC world cup [he took 10 wickets at 23.30 in that tournament].  And for the last time at Lord’s in 2009 in the Twenty20 world cup

So: Kyle McCallan, the Ireland offspinner,  a 13 year career  Ireland’s most-capped cricketer, playing 226 times and captaining on a record 54 occasions.  Making 3616 runs at 23.33  and taking 256 wickets.
